Over the past several years, Ningeokuluk Teevee has been gaining a reputation for her fine drawings and her impressive prints in the annual Cape Dorset print release. The clear, precise line of her drawings translate the world around her onto the page in a unique and graphic style. Her works have been colourfully transformed into many print types including stonecut, lithography and serigraph.
Ningeokuluk has a special ability to capture the essence of the stories and myths of her ancestors. She was inspired by hearing Malia Jaw tell stories to schoolchildren and is one of a new generation to illustrate these tales.
Furthermore, she was nominated for the Governor General’s Award for children’s literature in the illustration category for her first children’s book, Alego, which she wrote and illustrated. It is an autobiographical story of a young girl who goes clam digging for the first time on the sea shore with her grandmother and details the many interesting creatures who live there.
We have assembled a collection of 28 original drawings and some of her recent prints. We invite you to enjoy this wonderful artist’s work.
